Hydrogen embrittlement in micro-architectured materials

چکیده
Hydrogen embrittlement is a classical problem in bulk materials while it rather untouched for advanced such as micro-architectured materials. This can be barrier to industrial adoption of these where hydrogen present popular source energy. In this study, we developed numerical scheme assess the degradation metallic The built on concept elastoplastic homogenization and two theories, i.e. enhanced decohesion (HEDE) localized plasticity (HELP). use allows explicit definition unit-cell, drastically improving computation time. loci specific materials, that cubic (with 10%, 20% 30% relative densities) body-center density), are numerically characterized. Additionally, influence unit-cell topology, density, trap homogenized macroscopic material determined. Finally, unique failure locus provided generic with arbitrary densities. law independent density interpreted property, contributing design charts.

Internally architectured materials with directionally asymmetric friction
Internally Architectured Materials (IAMs) that exhibit different friction forces for sliding in the opposite directions are proposed. This is achieved by translating deformation normal to the sliding plane into a tangential force in a manner that is akin to a toothbrush with inclined bristles. Friction asymmetry is attained by employing a layered material or a structure with parallel 'ribs' inc...
متن کاملPrevention of Hydrogen Embrittlement in Steels
The essential facts about the nature of the hydrogen embrittlement of steels have now been known for 140 years. It is diffusible hydrogen that is harmful to the toughness of iron. It follows, therefore, that the harmful influence of diffusible hydrogen can be mitigated by preventing its entry into steel or by rendering it immobile once it penetrates the material. This review deals with the meth...
متن کاملGrain-boundary engineering markedly reduces susceptibility to intergranular hydrogen embrittlement in metallic materials
The feasibility of using ‘‘grain-boundary engineering” techniques to reduce the susceptibility of a metallic material to intergranular embrittlement in the presence of hydrogen is examined. Using thermomechanical processing, the fraction of ‘‘special” grain boundaries was increased from 46% to 75% (by length) in commercially pure nickel samples. In the presence of hydrogen concentrations betwee...
متن کاملCharacteristics of Hydrogen Embrittlement, Stress Corrosion Cracking and Tempered Martensite Embrittlement in High-strength Steels
Characteristics of tempered martensite embrittlement (TME), hydrogen embrittlement (HE), and stress corrosion cracking (SCC) in high-strength steels are reviewed. Often, it is important to determine unambiguously by which of these mechanisms failure occurred, in order to suggest the right actions to prevent failure recurrence. To this aim, samples made of high-strength AISI 4340 alloy steel wer...
متن کاملHydrogen Embrittlement and Piezonuclear Reactions in Electrolysis Experiments
Several evidences of anomalous nuclear reactions occurring in condensed matter have been observed during electrolysis, solid fracture and liquid cavitation. Despite the great amount of experimental results coming from the so-called Cold Nuclear Fusion and Low Energy Nuclear Reaction research fields, the comprehension of these phenomena still remains unanswered. On the other hand, as reported by...
